Zen Tread

I started my journey into practicing the exercise I have come to call Zen Tread almost ten years ago. At the time that I started, I was able to tread water for a few minutes before reaching what I thought at the time was a state of tired. I wasn't unfamiliar with exercise at the time, I preferred games and play rather than a structured, "going to the gym" routine. I recall thinking at the time that as I treaded water, I was in fact engaging in a symbolic representation of what occurs throughout everyday life. Each and every day, I am tasked with keeping my head above water, so to speak. There are degrees of stress, the level of effort I put forth is within my control, and success or not can be gauged and evaluated in multiple ways.

Over time, I evolved; a critical concept when one considers that it is through evolution that I learn or make use of existing qualities or attributes that lead to my survival or enhanced state. I have become increasingly mindful of a series of movements which serve to keep me afloat. This has become more important over time as I have come to strap ten pounds of weight to my ankles and further challenge myself to avoid making waves, rather I focus on making whirlpools.
